Type Locality and Naming
Central Lam Dong Province (Lam Dong Basin). The type section is established along Highway No.20 in the Bao Loc - Di. Linh area (N = 11°37’; E = 108°08). It was named as two “suites” Bao Loc and Di Linh bearing the names of townlets in Lam Dong Province.
Synonym: Hệ tầng Di Linh: Trần Dức Lương, Nguyền Xuân Bao et al. 1988; Trịnh Dánh (in Phan Cự Tiến et al.) 1989; (in Vũ Khúc, Bùi Phú Mỹ et al,) 1990; (in Vũ Khúc et al.) 2000; Nguyễn Đức Thắng et al. 1999 (Neogen). Lithology and Thickness
Characterized by bentonite-bearing beds. Dai Hiep region: (1). Ash-grey, medium- to coarse-grairied quartz sandstone and siltstone with two interbeds of compact basalt, 6-20 m thick. (2). Coal-bearing (Bao Loc area) or bentonite-bearing (Di Linh area) member including greyish sandstone, grey siltstone, carbonaceous shale, brown coal or bentonite, 50-60 m thick. (3). Quartz gritstone containing some grains of chert grading upward into greenish-grey, massive, well-sorted but poorly rounded sandstone with interbeds of bentonite; 4-5 m thick. (4). Greenish-grey, motley-colorcd, very soft when moistened, with some interbeds of fine-grained sandstone, grading upward into white-grey claystone interbedded with grey to white-grey bentonite; 50-60 m thick. The total thickness of the formation in this scction is 110-145 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Unconformably rests upon the Bao Loc Fm of late Miocene.
Upper contact
Quaternary.
Regional extent
The Di Linh Fm occurs in the Di Linh, Bao Loc, valley of Da Dung River, Due Trong and Da Lat areas of Lam Dong Province. Coeval with the Song Luy Fm on the coast of South Trung Bo.

Cinnamomum polymorphum, Laurus similis, Persea indica, Litsea sp., Ficus beauveriei, Diospyros brachysepala, Quercus cf. haugi, Qu. cf. incana, Dipterocarpus symmetriaefolius, Phragmites oeningensis, Typha latissima, Shorea aff. cochinchinensis, Anacolosa sp.; an abundant palynological assemblage of 52 sporomorphs, and Diatoms with Melosira praegranulata, M. italic.
